Situated opposite the ancient church of St John the Baptist (c1100), A.V. Smith & Sons Funeral Directors was established around the turn of the 20th Century, and the family ran the business from here for at least 3 generations.
The building is an integral part of the old ‘Hillingdon Village’ and was once the premises of the village builder and carpenter.
In 1976 the business was sold to Lodge Brothers, the seventh generation family of funeral directors founded by James Lodge in Feltham in 1780.
We know that organising a funeral can seem like a daunting task, especially when we find ourselves having to make difficult decisions at a time of loss and bereavement, when we feel least able to manage.
You can trust A.V. Smith & Sons to guide you through every step of the journey. We take great pride in being able to offer a 24-hour service, 365 days a year, providing advice on what needs to be done and by whom.
As part of the Lodge Brothers family with over 230 years of experience, we have encountered nearly every situation. Our full downloadable ‘Guide to Arranging A Funeral’ has been prepared to give you an outline of the actions required by executors and others when planning a funeral, as well as giving you information on the wide range of services we offer.
Everyone is an individual, and there are many options available to help you create a meaningful, memorable and personal funeral day that honours the deceased.
If you prefer, our funeral arranger can visit you at home to discuss the arrangements.
Dear Alison, The funeral went really well, I was so worried as I had never arranged a funeral before, but everything was perfect and your gentleman on the day were just brilliant.
Dear Mr Lodge, Thank you for your letter of 2nd March to which I reply on behalf of my family for your very kind expression of sympathy for our very sad loss of my much loved mother and their grandmother. It is a void that can never be replaced. Our deepest thanks to you and your most excellent and understanding staff, in particular Alison who guided us through this very sad time with such sympathy, a real gem. Also, all of your staff on the funeral day, for whom nothing was too much trouble. Please convey my very sincere thanks to them all.
