Situated opposite the ancient church of St John the Baptist (c1100), A.V. Smith & Sons Funeral Directors was established around the turn of the 20th Century, and the family ran the business from here for at least 3 generations.
The building is an integral part of the old ‘Hillingdon Village’ and was once the premises of the village builder and carpenter.
In 1976 the business was sold to Lodge Brothers, the seventh generation family of funeral directors founded by James Lodge in Feltham in 1780.
We know that organising a funeral can seem like a daunting task, especially when we find ourselves having to make difficult decisions at a time of loss and bereavement, when we feel least able to manage.
You can trust A.V. Smith & Sons to guide you through every step of the journey. We take great pride in being able to offer a 24-hour service, 365 days a year, providing advice on what needs to be done and by whom.
As part of the Lodge Brothers family with over 230 years of experience, we have encountered nearly every situation. Our full downloadable ‘Guide to Arranging A Funeral’ has been prepared to give you an outline of the actions required by executors and others when planning a funeral, as well as giving you information on the wide range of services we offer.
Everyone is an individual, and there are many options available to help you create a meaningful, memorable and personal funeral day that honours the deceased.
If you prefer, our funeral arranger can visit you at home to discuss the arrangements.
Dear Alison and Team,
Just a note from us all to say thank you for the professional service, the compassion and thoughtfulness given to us when you looked after Dad for us. The way in which you handled everything was very much appreciated and took away the stress, leaving us to remember Dad and what he meant to us.
Please thank the team who took Dad to the crematorium, it was difficult with the traffic but they remained calm and professional even though it was tight on time.
On behalf of my sisters – thank you once again.
Dear Alison and Linda,
Thank you both so much for all of your help in organising my dad’s funeral, you were so incredibly kind to me throughout – thank you.
The service itself was lovely and the pallbearers and Adrian showed such kindness and compassion to us, we felt truly cared for on the day.
It’s clearly not an easy job working for a funeral directors, dealing with intense emotions, but I found your kindness and compassion to be so supportive at a difficult time.
