LOCAL INFORMATION

A.V.Smith and Sons is located opposite St John the Baptist Church which dates back at least to 1100.

Adjacent to our branch is the historic Red Lion Hotel which dates back to the 16th Century. The hotel is steeped in history at every turn, but its real claim to fame dates back to 1646 when King Charles I checked in, disguised as a servant with his hair cut short, as he fled the Siege of Oxford during the English Civil War.

The hotel still has a part of the Great Wall of London visible in the car park.

WHY CHOOSE A.V. Smith & sons

Situated opposite the ancient church of St John the Baptist (c1100), A.V. Smith & Sons Funeral Directors was established around the turn of the 20th Century, and the family ran the business from here for at least 3 generations.

The building is an integral part of the old ‘Hillingdon Village’ and was once the premises of the village builder and carpenter.

In 1976 the business was sold to Lodge Brothers, the seventh generation family of funeral directors founded by James Lodge in Feltham in 1780.

We know that organising a funeral can seem like a daunting task, especially when we find ourselves having to make difficult decisions at a time of loss and bereavement, when we feel least able to manage.

You can trust A.V. Smith & Sons to guide you through every step of the journey. We take great pride in being able to offer a 24-hour service, 365 days a year, providing advice on what needs to be done and by whom.

As part of the Lodge Brothers family with over 230 years of experience, we have encountered nearly every situation. Our full downloadable ‘Guide to Arranging A Funeral’ has been prepared to give you an outline of the actions required by executors and others when planning a funeral, as well as giving you information on the wide range of services we offer.

Everyone is an individual, and there are many options available to help you create a meaningful, memorable and personal funeral day that honours the deceased.

If you prefer, our funeral arranger can visit you at home to discuss the arrangements.
